Nunaka: My Village

Chugachmiut, an Alaskan Native Tribal consortium, collaborated with FableVision to create Nunaka, a fun and engaging mobile game exploring Sugpiaq heritage, the Sugt'stun language, and key school readiness goals for 3-5-year-olds. As art director, I managed a team of 2D and 3D artists and collaborated in weekly one on one feedback sessions from the Sugpiaq community and visiting the Chugachmiut region villages to take reference photos and materials.

Art Director responsibilities included

  • Creating and maintaining the style of both 3D & 2D worlds

  • Managing a small team of artists (combination of remote, indigenous to Alaska, and local)

  • Attending weekly client and elder meetings to share work, get feedback, and relay relevant feedback to the artists

  • Work with the developers to find ways to translate design to the unity engine

  • Travel to the Chugachmiut area to collect research and playtest with the community

The Paper Girls Show

The Paper Girls Show is twelve episode animated series that empowers young girls to play, imagine, make, and learn through the exploration of the arts, science, computer programming, and engineering. The show follows the adventures of best friends and makers Caily and Reese, who discover a secret portal to Confetti, a fantastic world crafted entirely from paper. As art director, I directed artists on both the Adobe Animate side of the show as well as the After Effects and Photoshop end. I also helped coordinate feedback between our client at Global Tinker and our freelance art and animation team.

Art Director Responsibilities included

  • Managing a medium sized team of storyboard artists, Adobe Animate artists and animators, Photoshop artists, and After Effects animators

  • Maintaining an established style for two distinct worlds: one built in Animate and the other built in photoshop for a paper collage feel

  • Regularly share work with our client and relay feedback to our team of artists

  • Work on any odds and ends art adjustments and art itself including the logo and key art

Friendlets

In response to One Love Foundation’s goal to start its healthy friendships curriculum during a formative age, FableVision created five 45-second animated shorts called the “Friendlets.” The animations focus on different themes of friendship, including isolation, belittling, honesty, independence, kindness, responsibility, respect, and equality. For this project I directed a small team of artists and a pair of animators to bring this mini series to life. As with our other projects, kid testing was involved to make sure we were closely aligned with what our audience responded positively to.

Art Director responsibilities included

  • Managing a small team of artists, storyboarders and animators primarily working in Adobe Animate

  • Creating a look & feel, moodboards, and key art to establish the style

  • Collaborated with our client to ensure the messaging was aligned with their goals

  • Relay any feedback from our client and internal team to the artists on the project

Give As We Grow

Give As We Grow is an initiative helmed by the Phillips Foundation in partnership with Giving Tuesday and the National Center for Family Philanthropy. FableVision collaborated with the Phillips Foundation to develop the cornerstone of the initiative, a new app that educates children ages 8-11 on philanthropy to inspire real-world change and impact through the giving of time, treasure, talent, and ties. As the art director I managed a small team of artists and animators to make a really cohesive world and style. Built in unity and using Spine to utilize a robust character customization aspect and a wide range of npc designs much easier.

Art Director Responsibilities Included

  • Creating and managing a style for the world of the game

  • Working with a small group of artists dedicated to different aspects of the pipeline; ie backgrounds, characters, and mini games

  • Work closely with our producer to make decisions that would achieve our vision within budget

  • Utilize previous experience in Spine to help make a robust npc and avatar creator system
